Best February Covers...

... with a couple of Jan and maybe one from Dec.

In the past I've called this segment "Fav Covers". But screw it, I only called it my favourites cause I didn't want to come off as a tosser announcing what is superior design and art when I have no qualifications to do so. Then I realised that those who are "qualified" are simply people other people have allowed to be qualified as "qualified". So if you allow me, here are my best selects for the season.

Hi Robin

It is so cool to see book covers celebrated as works of art in themselves. Will this be lost in the rush to bring everything to e-book format?

There's some lovely art on the interweb to illustrate stories and such. But the art of a book to catch the eye on the shelf of a bookshop competing with so many other covers is an art in itself. Cause it's not just a pretty picture, it is a 3-dimensional sculpture made of paper and pigment. The talent by artists and designers, usually working together, to create a package that makes someone notice, then pick the book up and combined with the written word make them feel the book in their hands is for them and buy it is something is something worth celebrating at least one a month on this blog.
